The Men and the Banner
Cannon Company
358th Infantry
90th Division
This photograph was taken 7 March 1944. at Fort Dix, New Jersey, shortly before the Cannon Company left for more training in England.
The Cannon Company photo includes 113 men; five additional soldiers were not present when the photo was taken. The commanding officer, Captain Charles E. Wise, is the tall man pictured in the center of the front row. The company roster was among his belongings and was shared by his son, Landrum.
A total of 84 men signed the banner. Not all the men pictured in the photo signed the banner; conversely, not all the men who signed the banner are pictured in the unit photo. Many staff changes occurred between March 1944 and January 1945 (when the banner is presumed to have been signed.)
The names of those who signed the banner were transcribed and are shown in alphabetical order, along with any home town or home state.
The names of Cannon Co. soldiers in the photo are shown as they were typed on the company roster.
