              The Men              and the Banner

Cannon Company,  358th Infantry, 90th Division - known as 'Tough Ombres' - fought in the European theater during World War II.  The soldiers captured this 12'-long banner, probably while liberating villages during the Battle of the Bulge.  We believe they signed their names on it before sending it to the widow of a fallen comrade, Maurice "Pete" Henrichsen, killed in action in Luxembourg on 16 January 1945.

An effort is being made to establish contact with surviving members of the Cannon Company or their families.  Can you help?  Click buttons below to learn more.

While digging through her late mother's Wessington Springs home, Gigi Hickey came across a shocking piece of World War II history. Tucked away in the dark corners of a trunk stored by her mother, Georgia Henrichsen, Hickey discovered a black 105mm Howitzer canister. What she found upon opening the canister's lid was an unsettling spoil of war that hadn't seen the light of day for nearly 70 years.
